Winter Is the Best Time to Renovate in Ontario. Here Is Why.

Most people book renovations in spring, which is exactly why spring is the worst time to book one. Interior tile work does not care what the weather is doing, and the winter months have real advantages.

Availability

Between May and September every good contractor in the GTA is booked solid, largely with exterior work that has to happen in warm weather. From January to March, schedules open up. You get better crews, sooner, with more attention.

Lead times on materials

Suppliers are quieter in winter. Special-order tile that takes six weeks in June often arrives in two or three in February. If you have your heart set on something that is not a stock item, this matters.

It is interior work

Tile, bathrooms, kitchens, basements — none of it depends on outdoor conditions. The only winter consideration is keeping the space above about 10 °C while mortar and grout cure, which is not an issue in a heated home.

You are indoors anyway

A bathroom out of action for a week in February is less disruptive than the same week in July when you have people over and the yard is in use.

Ready for spring

A kitchen or bathroom finished in March is a kitchen or bathroom you enjoy all summer, rather than one you are living around.

The one genuine winter drawback

Dust control is harder when you cannot open windows. We manage it with plastic containment and negative-pressure fans, but it is worth knowing. If someone in the house has respiratory sensitivity, mention it when we quote and we will plan around it.

What we would still not do in winter

Exterior tile, pool surrounds, or anything involving mortar below freezing. Those genuinely need warm weather.

If you are planning a bathroom or kitchen renovation for next year, booking a winter slot usually means a better price and a better crew.
